Our Mission

We, the Catholic Filipino Australian Chaplaincy, envision ourselves to become evangelising Christian Communities whose mission is to respond to the integral needs of the members as well as to integrate ourselves into the local and universal Church.

Objectives

1.   To respond to the material, psycho-social, cultural and spiritual needs of the members of all levels.

  • assist those less endowed with material things (jobs, shelter, charity, etc)
  • offer advice and counsel (counselling/spiritual direction)
  • offer spiritual counselling/direction, recollection & retreats
  • foster Christian spirituality that is consonant with the church teaching (Christian spirituality)
2.   To develop a participative Church, namely, to actively take part in the life and ministry of the local and universal Church.
  • offer input on the new concept of the Church today (Ecclesiology)
  • take active participation and integrate in the life and ministry of the local and universal Church vis a vis the pre-Vatican pyramidal Church (involvement & integration)
  • develop lay ministers that are relevant today (Lay Ministries)
3.   To develop other community programmes & services
  • make a pastoral family census (pastoral census: home visitation)
  • include a charity fund in the annual budget (charity)
  • make use of referrals (government, civic or parish) in all of the above programmes (referrals)
  • respond to crisis and emergency situations (crises/emergencies)

In line with the agreement with the Archdiocese of  Brisbane, the chaplain works with the existing Filipino Catholic Chaplaincy which acts as a pastoral council to the community.

- Administer baptism
- Celebrate reconciliation
- Administer confirmation to adults being prepared by him for marriage
- Preach the word of God
- Assist at Marriages and impart the Nuptial Blessing
- Conduct funerals
- Celebrate Mass in a cemetery and on occasion in private home
- Conduct processions in a place apart from the church and likewise give solemn blessings and consecrations
- Celebrate the most solemn celebration of the Eucharist on Sundays and holy days of obligation
